…the famous elephant at Wat Phnom with friends!
I am not sure how many kilos of fruits such as pineapple, watermelon, and banana that we brought, I think its around 20 kilos but she ate them all and look like she wants more! Sambo is her name and one of the old-hand here in Phnom Penh, survived the machetes of Khmer Rouge, she has become one of the capital city’s most visible cultural icons and for some Cambodians they believe she’s bringing luck to them! Well, I first saw Sambo last July 28, 2008..I was on FCC with K and I was surprised that in the the road there’s an elephant walking together with maybe her caretaker then, actually, I enjoyed watching it and you think she brought goodluck to me then! *winks*
Feeding her for the first time really scares me, infact I don’t like to try it while we are walking to her place, I have already told that I will not going to do it but instead I will just watched them, my friends, on the side but when we were there, Sambo was so calm and looks like used with people already. Finally, I have decided that I will try it and I did, I fed her with those fruits, I enjoyed it…hehehe! I touched her trunk for goodluck as they said but the caretaker was asking me to hug her, grrr, that’s scary but I did, I hug her trunk but she moves it and she almost sway me, hihihi, 3rd picture shows! But thanks Sambo for giving us that chance and for being such a good elephant to us! We might see you again…
Oh, Sambo just turn 50 years old last January 17… Happy Birthday Sambo and for more of her story, just click HERE! *smile* Thanks so much Zarah for the pictures!
