Another food entry and this time its Arroz a la Cubana, hmm…maybe I should join FoodTripFriday soon, as per Zarah’s tip! I’ve been cooking this even before. I first cooked this when I am still pregnant with Isabelle and Kent loves it—he said its a complete meal having the banana on the side! Well, I first saw the recipe in a cooking book that I bought in bookstore here “Filipino Favorites” by Periplus Mini Cookbooks.

Anyway, Arroz a la cubana or arroz cubano, which means Cuban-style rice, is a Spanish dish consisting of rice, a fried egg and tomato sauce but it is also popular in Philippines and in Peru.

I always cooked the Philippine version which is just easy for me, *smile* which made of rice, ground beef sauteed with onions, garlic, diced potatoes and diced carrots, plus a fried egg on top and a native plantain, sliced length-wise and fried. Others are using tomato sauce but I don’t, but I am adding a little of Worcestershire sauce to make it taste better together with peas and raisins! *yummy!*

According to Wikipedia, in Spain, a typical dish of Arroz a la Cubana consists of a serving of white rice with tomato sauce and a fried egg. Sometimes this dish is also served with a fried banana while in Peru, it is common for the dish to consist of white rice, fried bananas, a fried hot dog, and a fried egg over the white rice.

Well, I still love the Philippine version with an added twist. Hope you will try it soon and let me know how it taste like, I will wait for you! Oh, again its better to serve hot…have a great week everyone!
