Hi, back posting another topic about the book Raising Boys by Steve Biddulph, and two more to go and we will be done!

Anyway, after sharing with you 3 stages of boyhood, all about testosterone, helping your boy to be a new kind of man, what dads can domothers and son and  the last one that I’ve shared couple of weeks ago is about how to develop a healthy sexuality for boys. Today, I will be sharing with you about a revolution in schooling.

Many schools today are battleground for our kids. The classroom becomes  a battle for survival with only two goals—getting the girls to achieve and getting the boys to behave.

So, here are some starting points that schools can and must change so their school will be a good place for boys if they do the following:

  • Allow boys to start school one year later than girls, when their fine-motor skills are ready for pencil-and-paper work (girl’s skills develop more quickly).
  • Vigorously recruit males (both young and mature-age) into teaching, and also involve more of the right kind of men from the community to provide one-to-one coaching and support.
  • Re-design schooling to be more physical, energetic, concrete and challenging.
  • Target boys’ weak areas (literacy especially) with boy-specific intensive language programs, right from Grade 1 (and have separate English classes in mid-high school).
  • Build good personal relationships with boys, through smaller groupings and fewer teacher changes in high school, so as to meet boys’ needs for fathering and mentoring.
  • Be alert to the fact that problem behaviour can be sign of learning difficulties, and investigate this as soon as possible.

This is all for now, a little update from us. Weekend was great, K and I went around again last Saturday and had brunch at Rising Sun while Sunday was day-out with kids, we attended CJ’s classmate birthday party at Ice Restaurant in Street 240, it was fun!

And its Monday, busy day as usual…but aside from the usual Monday routine I went around to searched for a kiddie jogging pants…I’ve been looking for various things that CJ will be using on their end term show, he will be doing a street dance performance and a farm show…different costume needed, lucky though that he will be acting as farmer so that’s easy, we don’t need to buy anything, just a hat! About the street dance costume, I was able to get other stuff last week at Toul Toumpong but no luck with the pants, they have for adults but not for kids. Anyway, was lucky to get it at Central Market then I found out that Sorya is cheaper than Sovanna! Why? Last week, I went to asks for sneaker for CJ, he needs a blue one for dancing, it costs $18 but yesterday in Sorya, its $10…so after picking-up him from school we went straight to Sorya to bought it.

Then we ate at food court, he had Lok-Lak and I ate congee…yummy! We tried frozen yogurt from Snow Yogurt, we got original yogurt flavor then strawberry, jackfruit, chocolate chips, marshmallows as toppings! Its my first time to try fro-yo, its delicious…healthy, low fat (as what they said), fresh and I will be definitely have it again if got the chance!

CJ and I had fun, we missed Isabelle but we of course got something for her and she was so happy to see us as we arrived! Oh, was always great to have them!
