…again here in Phnom Penh, CJ’s at home, no school because its Queen Mother’s Birthday. It is a local holiday in the country.
Last Saturday, Cambodia is celebrating 75th Royal Birthday of Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk of Cambodia. And since its Saturday, they’ve made Monday as official local holiday.
She was born as Paule-Monique Izzi in Saigon, Vietnam in June 18, 1936, and is of French-Italian descent. Her father is Mr. Jean-Francois Izzi was a French banker of Corsican, French and Italian descent while her mother is Madame Pomme Peang was from Phnom Penh. she is the wife of HM King Father Norodom Sihanouk of Cambodia whom she married in April 1952. She’s sometimes referred as Queen Monique.
She studied at the Primary School Norodom, Sisowath High School and the Lycee Rene Descartes. She was President of the Cambodian Red Cross towards the end of 1960s, and is currently the CRC Honorary President.
Cambodians are celebrating this auspicious occasion, well-wishes slogans will be hang up by Cambodian people, officials and all governmental agencies. During the birthday’s night, there will be traditional and modern arts performance at many places in Phnom Penh along with fireworks display to congratulate HRH Queen Mother.
